Excellent start... Then it seems to lose its steam...
Brilliant and mind boggling. This book really dives into the "Games People Play". How easy is it to get manipulated? Very, it seems. Ever wondered why people do not see through all those scams easily? Well, read the book (highly recommended) all the answers are there.
It simply looks like a collection of notes for a later book. As an educational tome, it is miserably bad, and merely a collection of opinions with little evidence to support them
And especially how NOT to GET conned. I have been taken in a couple of times in my life (once by a quick change artist and the other by a dent fix-it con). I got a lot out of the book and found the history of the greatest "cons" very enlightening. Once again, Dr. Benton has produced a fact filled and informative work that also seemed to help me emotionally. Well worth purchasing!
The world seems to be getting worse and worse. No one is honest and you have to hire a service to make sure your identity is not stolen. Dr Benton's book explains why people do what they do and explains how you can protect yourself from the bad guys. I really liked the chapter on the ten greatest con men in history. So, if you've read any of Dr Benton's books, this one is a must. If you haven't now is the time to start.

I've never been disappointed with this Author's writings. "The Mind of A Con Man" fits right in with all Dr. Benton's masterful books. He can take credit for a "library" of authored-books -- I believe numbering 200+.
I learned plenty from this particular book. Past and current con men are listed & profiled. E.G., how they became what they became, what areas of conning they specialized in, their ultimate fate, etc. etc.
A must-read .. not only about con men, but self-help stuff as well! A book for everyone...
